Thyroid Disorders

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar: fatigue, lack of energy, constipation, chills, hair loss, irritability, or dramatic weight changes? If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it’s possible that you have a thyroid condition. At the office of W Belmont Ave, we provide the skilled and experienced medical care that’s required for the diagnosis, treatment of hormonal, glandular, and metabolic disorders. We’ll evaluate your condition and develop a personalized treatment that will help you achieve a more functional endocrine balance and restore your feeling of overall well-being.
While general categories of thyroid disease symptoms—sleep changes, weight changes, bowel problems, for example—can overlap, exactly how these manifest is quite different from condition to condition. In fact, symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), the two most common types of thyroid disease, are often the opposite of each other. Furthermore, thyroid issues such as goiter, thyroid cancer, and specific versions of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, such as Graves' disease, can bring about other symptoms that can be unique to or more pronounced with these diagnoses. While there is no single symptom or cluster of symptoms that points to hyper- or hypothyroidism, our endocrinologist will perform the appropriate diagnostic tests to definitively diagnose your condition and determine the specific type of thyroid issue involved. The treatment for a thyroid condition depends on the type of problem that is present and whether the thyroid is overactive, underactive, enlarged, or affected by cancer. As your endocrinologist we’ll base your treatment on your specific test results. Thyroid medication to increase or decrease hormone production may be prescribed and your daily dosage will be carefully titrated and monitored to help ensure optimal metabolic function.
At the office of W Belmont Ave, we’re dedicated to providing the highest quality of skilled and compassionate care. For more information on our practice and the many services we provide, give our office a call today.
