Ear lavage, also referred to as ear irrigation, is provided in order to get rid of excess earwax, cerumen, and foreign materials within the ear. How Is Ear Lavage Performed?
Prior to performing an ear lavage, a thorough examination of your ear will be performed. As an in-office procedure, ear lavage starts with the insertion of an otoscope to gain a better look at the inner ear. Next, a syringe-like tool will be used to insert a saline solution into the ear in order to flush out any foreign materials or excess earwax. If necessary, ear drops may also be provided to help alleviate any symptoms.
